Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) are the biologically active components in a medicine or drug product that produce the intended therapeutic effect in the body.

In simple terms, the API is the “active” part of the drug — the substance that actually treats the condition, unlike the other components (called excipients) which help with taste, stability, or delivery but have no medicinal effect.
